Around the WNBA: Tulsa Shock

Tulsa Shock! They will SHOCK you this year. I can guarantee it. They have everything they need in order to be a great team, if they use it right. Here’s what they have and what they are going to use against you.

Coach Nolan Richardson: people either hate him or love him. The biggest reason as to why he is hated is because he doesn’t know how to run his team. Meaning he doesn’t know which 5 to play at once. He undeniably has some of he beat players in the WNBA. He should have a better record and a better season than he’s had. People like him because he isn’t just about the win. He’s about his team. Regardless of where you stand, he’s an important part to Tulsa’s success or failure.

Rookies: Tulsa selected Elizabeth Canbage as their first pick in the 2011 WNBA draft. We all know that she is a skyscraper but that’s not her only attribute. She is also a player and teammate. I say she’s a great teammate because there are great Players who are terrible teammates. Even though she is young she can step up and be a leader for her team. She has played with the American-Australia Great including Lauren Jackson and Penelope Taylor. She is said to be the Kevin Durant of Tulsa. We’ll see how her role Playa. Tulsa’s second pick in the draft was the selection of Kayla Pederson. She was a standout forward for Stanford. She’s a great defender as well as a great offender. She let’s no one roll past her on the Defensive end. When she receives instructions, she uses all her ability to follow through in that task. On the offensive side of things, she embarrasses her opponents. She can take the quick jumper or she can fake the jumper and fake you to the basket. She is such a versatile player that will propel this team into their near future.

Veteran Players: The newest acquisition is Betty Lennox from Louisiana Tech was signed as a free agent from the Sparks. She averaged double digits ppg in 8 of her 11 years of play. She’s bounced from different teams in those years but she is undeniably a phenomenal basketball player. She’s a 5’8 guard that can hold her own under any circumstance. If you’ve ever seen her play, you would surely say she is a powerhouse. The legendary Sheryl Swoopes has returned to the WNBA. She has started in all her games played except 14. That is ridiculous! She, like B-Money, racked up double digit points per game! Sheryl Swoopes at one point in her was the face of the WNBA. She was definitely one of the top ranked players in the league. She is one of those rare 6’0 guards that are great at what they do. She will definitely make a difference.

Chemistry: Team chemistry is a big part of this teams success. Everyone is going to have to step their game up and be about this season. I’m not saying they didn’t last year, but they have everything they need to be successful. They have all-star players at every position and I honestly think that they will use all their tools to win. With the rookies, the veterans, and Coach Richardson, everything should work out just fine. But with new additions with old editions, things can get rocky. If everyone is humble and ready to learn, this team should do well.

CLast year there was no one from the Tulsa Shock in the game that was played between the National Team and the WNBA stars. I would be interested in knowing which players on the Shock you think will be playing in this year’s all-star game.

    1. Elizabeth Cambage. Ivory Latta. Sheryl Swoops. Should I continue?
