5/19 Preview. Who Will Win?

Today is going to be a great day in the WNBA. 8 teams set off to win the first game of their season. Home teams look to start with a win, and away teams look to upset their hosts.

Connecticut Sun vs. NY Liberty

ImageWho Wins? New York Liberty. The Liberty’s roster hasn’t changed much so they still have the same great play makers and game winners. The Liberty has talent and skill that the Sun can’t match. Cappie Pondexter is a huge factor in the Liberty team and no one on the Connecticut team can contain her. If the Sun want to win this game, every one of their players must score and they have to contain Liberties key players. Tina Charles will have to have her hand on the ball every possession if they want to come out victorious.

Atlanta Dream vs. Indiana Fever

ImageWho Wins? Atlanta Dream. The Dream had everything they had last year and you see what that did for them. Although they don’t have home field advantage, but they have an edge. Their edge is the victory they had over the Fever in the conference finals. If they can keep their morale up and go into the game thinking about their victory, they will play with the same ability and passion. If the Fever want to win this game, they need to forget about the last time they met the Dream. They need to think about what they need to do to conquer. They need to match Atlanta’s scoring ability. Angel McCoughtry knows how to perform and the Fever need to mimic it.

Chicago Sky vs. Washington Mystics

ImageWho Wins? Chicago Sky. The Sky hit the jackpot in the off-season acquiring Swin Cash, Le’Coe Willingham, and Ticha Penicheiro. Cash and Willingham are game changers. They had big parts in many of the Storms wins and they will do the same for Chicago. The Sky are full of great guards and they have just added Penicheiro to the bunch. These guards are going to make big opportunities for the posts on this squad. Epiphany Prince, Courtney Vandersloot, and Sylvia Fowles had their big three last year and I’m sure they will bring that back this year. The Mystics have lost too many key players. They won’t be able to bounce back. If the Sky have their chemistry locked then this is a sure win.

San Antonio vs. Tulsa Shock

ImageWho Wins? San Antonio. San Antonio start last season with a winning streak longer than any other team. San Antonio has a great team with 2 young players that have stepped up to the plate and pushed their way to the top. Becky Hammon and Tully Bevilaqua have a great rotation going at the point position with a solid front court. They lost a few players but they gained great ones. With great guards, you need great forwards and centers and San Antonio have that as well. They’ve acquired Shameka Christon and Tangela Smith who will certainly add to the post game. The Shock have all the necessary parts and pieces to be a successful team but the chemistry will take a while. The Shock need to be like a well oiled machine in order to win this game.
