Candace Parker played every position and powered her team over the Sun. She had a SPECTACULAR game! Kristi Toliver was out due to foul trouble, so there were times where Parker played as a guard and a great guard she was! Nneka Ogwumike was another Spark that was in foul trouble, but Parker didn’t hesitate to play her position either. She took over everyone and her stats don’t do her skill justice. Parker led both teams in almost every category. Last night she scored 33 points, grabbed 16 rebounds, dished 8 assists and also had 4 steals. She was 100% from beyond the arc. Candace Parker showed the WNBA that Tina Charles doesn’t belong at the top of the MVP race, she does.
Although Ogwumike and Jantel Lavender, didn’t play as much due to foul trouble, they didn’t let that stop them. Both players scored in double digits last night. Ogwumike picked up 2 early fouls, but after halftime, she settled right in and got down to scoring and rebounding. She had 18 points and 5 rebounds. Lavender also did her part by scoring 10 points and grabbing 8 rebounds. The Sparks were great last night.
The Sun cam close to winning but couldn’t make the buckets when they needed to. Tina Charles and Kara Lawson exchanged hot hands throughout the game. Charles scored 19 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Lawson had 16 points and dished 4 assists. Tan White and Renee Montgomery came off the bench scoring as well. They combined to score 23 points which advanced the Sun closer. At the end of the game, Candace Parker and the Sparks were just too much to handle.
