Silver Stars must of showered in some type of magic basketball water because they are playing phenomenally! The entire team is playing at a new level. Sophia Young, Becky Hammon, and Jia Perkins all had 20+ games and all played great. Becky Hammon creates a lot of plays for her team. Although she had 23 points and 6 assists, she also created a lot of big plays for her team. A simple steal and a look down the court can create so much for her team. She stars down the court with a vision and it always ends in a score. Now that they have another great guard, Hammon can either play the 1 or the 2 spot. Last night, she was at the 2 spot to match up with Cappie Pondexter. Regardless of whether she’s a t the 1 or the 2 spot, she still leads her team.
Sophia Young and Jia Perkins are clearly huge factors for the Stars. When these two players aren’t hot, the Stars struggle to win. Sophia Young and Jia are perfect at the 3 and 4 spot especially when they are together on the court. When they are on at once, they split the defense. The defense doesn’t know who to guard because they are both threats. Sophia can take one dribble beat you to the basket and get the foul. Perkins can pull up a jumper or hit a 3. Perkins is huge on the defensive end as well. Last night she had 6 steals which all lead to Silver Stars scores.
The Liberty are short 3 huge players and the team certainly isn’t the same without Plennette Pierson, Kia Vaughn, and Katelan Redmon. DeMya Walker isn’t 100% either so they didn’t have a big to guard Perkins or Young. Cappie Pondexter and Essence Carson were huge last night but other players weren’t. Pondexter scored 23 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Carson scored 25 points and had 4 steals. The Sparks were relying on their guards to score while the Stars were relying on their bigs. There was a mix-match last night and the Liberty played well though.
