Nneka Ogwumike powers Sparks past Fever, 77-74

I have two words for this game: Nneka Ogwumike!! The fact that she had a 20-20 game as a Rookie is ridiculous!! She was a huge part of the Sparks surge back into the game and the win. She came alive in the second half after the Sparks were down 9. When the Sparks went into the 3Q, Ogwumike came out grabbing almost every offensive rebound. She had 12 offensive rebounds. Boxing out was none existent for the Fever. Even when the Fever would box out Nneka, she would go around, get the rebound and put it back. Unfortunately for Ogwumike, she doesn’t always get the call. But last night, it didn’t matter because she was a part of rebounding on every missed shot. She either came down with the rebound or she batted it to another player, but either way there was always second chance opportunities. NNeka Ogwumike had the 12th WNBA 20-20 game as  a Rookie. Nneka Ogwumike, under the coaching of Carol Ross and Candace Parker, is going to be a GREAT forward!

Kristi Toliver and Candace Parker still have that same automatic chemistry. They both scored 19 points which was huge. Parker grabbed 7 rebounds last night. She usually has 10 but Ogwumike was stealing rebounds left and right. Kristi Toliver wasn’t automatic from beyond the arc but she was huge for the team. Once again, she created so many opportunities for her team that everyone capitalized on.

The Fever tried to beat the wrong team. The Fever are known for having a lead going into the 3Q then blowing it. The Sparks are known for being down going into the second half and getting into the game in the 3Q. The Fever did exactly what was expected, as did the Sparks. Even though the Sparks came back, Tamika Catchings, Briann January and Erlana Larkins didn’t give up until the last few seconds of the game. The Fever were down 77-74 in the last 6 seconds of the gane. Tamika Catchings got the ball behind the arc from January shot it and missed it. Catchings had the last shot that would have tied the game but she couldn’t make that clutch shot. She was playing well throughout the game. She scored 27 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. On the court she caused Sparks TO and was always part of the Fever fast break. Brianna January had a 3 big 3s that started a Fever surge. She ended the game with 11 points and 4 assists. Larkins was a random factor the Fever. She scored 8 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Her stats don’t reflect how she actually played. She was on the floor for 17 minutes, most of them being in the second half. She was a big reason the Sparks didn’t have a bigger lead. The Fever weren’t able to bounce back from their third quarter and they lost another game, this time against the Sparks.
